Writing Effective Blog Post Titles
By: Charlie Bond
Anyone who runs a blog knows how important it is to get your reader's attention with every post. Your blog post headline or title is the first weapon you have in your arsenal to do just that. Far too many blogs these days don't invest enough resources into coming up with effective titles. You can really get one over on your competition today by applying these fantastic tips to your next blog post title.
The headlines needs to show that you have something your readers can use. In other words, your readers should find your aim behind your post useful, but why would they click on your post's title if it's not fulfilling any purpose? Time is always an important commodity to be used sparingly, particularly when dealing with Internet surfers. This is why you need to work on your title so that it conveys a lot--enough to get people to click on your post. Your titles don't just need to look good and be easily understood, they need to convey a definite purpose. When your title is good and right, your battle is almost totally won.
Make your title as honest and revealing as possible. If your headline isn't clear when representing your post, then it's obvious that the reader won't find a reason to read further. Don't write a title for your blog that is anything less than crystal clear. No one will care if your title asks a question or makes a statement but they do care that its message is clear. Readers often rebel against titles that make attempts at mystery or building some sense of suspense and should be avoided. Simple titles are often the most attractive.
Be sure to use a commanding voice when you write titles for blog posts. When you use this tone of voice in your headlines, people are much more likely to consider you an authority. When you do this there are two things you achieve; the first is that people see you as an authority. The next thing is that your readers are likely to respond to the nature of the authority. You won't have a problem making your title live up to expectations this way either. Being arrogant is not the way to go when trying to establish a commanding voice though. If you want people to actually read your blog posts you need good titles. You might have written award winning blog content but if your titles don't attract readers what good will that content do you?
