Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan Take Up a Challenge in Bol Bachchan

April 24, 2011, (Sawf News) - Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan will star in Bol Bachchan, a remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1979 comedy film Gol Maal.
In Gol Maal, Palekar played Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma, a college graduate who struggles to cope with the whimsical nature of his employer Bhavani Shankar (Utpal Dutt) in order to retain his job. Shankar's idiosyncrasies abound. For example, he doesn't like young people who are not traditionally dressed, or who take interest in sports, though Shankar himself is a sports fan! Even more bizarre, Shankar considers an man without a mustache characterless.
Palekar won Filmfare Best Actor Award for his role in the film, and Utpal Dutt was named Filmfare Best Comedian.
The film was a big box office success.
In Bol Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan will essay Amol Palekar's role, and Ajay Devgn Utpal Dutt's.
The film, to be produced by Ajay Devgn, is being directed by Rohit Shetty, who earlier directed the Golmaal series.
According to a Mid Day source, Devgn picked Bachchan for Palekar's role because Devgn feels that Bachchan has a wicked comic streak that no filmmaker has adequately exploited so far. Ajay is also close to the Bachchan family.
"Ajay treats Abhishek like a younger brother," says the source.
Bachchan confirmed his participation in the Bol Bachchan to Mid Day saying, "Ajay was very keen that we do one, and Rohit has rewritten the script with such affection and so cleverly."
Emulating Amole Palekar and Utpal Dutt in Bol Bachchan will be a challenge for Bachchan and Devgn, but it's a challenge they both are adequately equipped for.
