She's back after rocking the red carpet at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles and the first public appearance that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made was not for a B'Town event, but for an initiative to support women suffering from cancer.
The 'Guzaarish' actress was a special guest at the Lavasa Women's Drive 2011 Award Night held recently at a suburban Mumbai hotel. She not just honoured a young cancer fighter, but also urged women to go for regular check ups and requested journalists present to spread the awareness.
The ever modest Mrs. Bachchan swatted aside comments about her being an inspirational figure for the women and said, "On the contrary, they have been very inspiring to all of us. Because of the sheer strength and courage that some of the women have portrayed in their ability to wake up everyday and be strong enough to conquer the challenges they face after being diagnosed with cancer."
Looking elegant in an off white ensemble, Aishwarya expressed her joy on being a part of the event and said, "It's wonderful to see women celebrating an evening of empowerment. It's great to see so many success stories and such strong women around you."
B'Town was also represented at the function by Arjan Bajwa, Jackky Bhagnani and Puja Gupta who handed out prizes and singer Shweta Pandit who enthralled the crowd with the latest chart busting numbers.
