Bollywood’s Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut “Mausam” starring his son Shahid Kapoor and actress Sonam Kapoor had a good opening Friday as it earned approximately Rs.9 crore on the first day, an informed source said.

Made at a budget of Rs.35 crore, the film released in around 1,900 screens and is going strong with 100 percent occupancy. The film aims to bring back the true romance.

'Kareena Kapoor out of Shahid Kapoor's guest list'

Shahid Kapoor is leaving no stone unturned for his home-production, Mausam. Shahid has personally invited everyone from Bollywood for the premiere of Mausam. Calling his ex-flames Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra but leaving Kareena Kapoor, the one woman with whom he had the longest relationship.

A source said, "Shahid and Pankaj decided the guestlist. They personally called or texted everyone from the industry. But maybe, Shahid didn't want Kareena."

This comes as a surprise because Shahid and Kareena have maintained that that they are cordial to each other and would love to work together again after Jab We Met.

Shahid and Kareena had also been very warm towards each other during the Filmfare awards earlier this year. Saif was also present with Kareena. The three of them had exchanged pleasantries and spent time together.

The reason for their break-up still remains a mystery since both of them have remained tight-lipped about it and moved on. Kareena began dating Saif Ali Khan immediately while shooting for Tashan.

Shahid found love in Vidya Balan while shooting for Aziz Mirza's Kismet Konnection. However, once the film released, Shahid decided to move on. Soon, they stopped talking to each other. According to sources, they drifted apart because Shahid was attracted to tennis star Sania Mirza.

Though, Kareena has been going strong with the Chhote Nawab, it is not the same for Shahid. The actor was seen hanging out with Priyanka Chopra soon after Vidya. Shahid and Priyanka had an on-off relationship interspersed with a lot of fights.

However, they have not let their personal differences disrupt their professional lives. Shahid and Priyanka will be seen together in Kunal Kohli's next untitled film. The three girls in question were unavailable for comment.

Movie Review : Mausam (2011)

Movie: Mausam
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, Anupam Kher and Aditi Sharma;
Writer-Director: Pankaj Kapoor;
Rating: ****

There is an absolutely devastating moment of pure drama in this eagerly-awaited far-from-disappointing romance where Shahid Kapoor, playing one of the most deliciously challenging roles of his career, espies from a train the lost love of his life, Sonam Kapoor, standing forlorn in the snow with luggage, like Meryl Streep in 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' or Manisha Koirala in 'Dil Se', waiting for god knows what! The next train? Love? Death? Or the next life?

It's a moment that defines 'Mausam', a film that has some serious flaws, but finally holds together as a work of renaissance art, more remarkable, in parts outstanding, for what it attempts rather than what it finally achieves.
Pankaj Kapoor takes the Muslim-Hindu love story between a Kashmiri refugee girl and a Punjabi boy through an arching sweep of history. Every historical trauma that has defined and defiled India and Indians in the last 30 years props up as a vital image to underline the love story.

And what 'Mausam' finally says is, love becomes impossible in a civilization that chooses to define itself by violence rather than peace. Gandhi? He could be just a spectre that never existed in a world where two young people cannot come together in a clasp of love for the fear of falling into a terror trap.

We have award-worthy performances in 'Mausam' by the hero who happens to be the director's son. But that is just a karmic coincidence, like much of what transpires between the lovers in 'Mausam'.

The film goes from one phase in the couple's life to another, not quite smoothly but not strenuously either. The transitions in their estrangement are mapped out in some finely-written scenes where the couple's smothered affections for one another are manifested in moments of sublime beauty.

The ever-brilliant cinematographer Binod Pradhan captures the couple against breathtaking backdrops in rural Punjab and Scotland.

'Mausam' is one of the best-looking films in recent times. The transitions in time and topography are brought about with a fair degree of inner conviction and outer resplendence.

The synthesis of the lovers' inner and outer world is not always stress-free. The couple's inability to come together through various tragic and traumatic historical conflicts is depicted in scenes that range from the rivetting to the mundane.

Visually the film is a feast.

The film's strong sense of purpose and its love-defining affiliation to socio-cultural incidents leave little space for the incidental characters (of whom there are many) to grow in the plot. That, in a way, is the need of the plot. But you do crave to see more of the lives around the couple and how these lives and the relationships qualify the love story at the film's centre. You want to see the long-lasting friendship between Aayaat's Muslim father (Kamalnain Chopra) and the Kashmir Pundit (Anupam Kher).

And there is a plenty of quality of that sublime stillness in the storytelling - the film's extraneous correctness hides much of the film's intrinsic inconsistencies. Then there is Shahid, standing tall with a performance that puts him right up there among the finest contemporary actors.

Shahid takes us through the film's and his character's romantic odyssey, inconsistencies and all. Forget Tom Cruise. In the Airforce uniform he reminds us of Rajesh Khanna in 'Aradhana'. And that's the highest compliment any contemporary star can be paid.

The director tries hard to merge Sonam in the resplendent ambience. Her performance has enchanting echoes of Kareena Kapoor in 'Refugee'. The camera gives her no room to complain. But in the intensely romantic moments, she looks lost rather than lovelorn.

It's the other girl, the spirited Punjabi kudi Rajjo, in Shahid's life played by Aditi Sharma, who fills up the small space provided to her character.

'Mausam' is about the thwarted love between Harry and Aayaat. When they finally meet during the Gujarat riots, they seem to discover not love but its aftermath, which is a far greater thing than love.

Where the film seems to lag behind is in creating emotional pockets for the couple's mutual feelings to develop. Shahid playing Harry the Punjabi wastrel turned air-force officer and Sonam playing Aayaat the refugee from Kashmir, have several shared tender moments . The stand-out ones all come towards the second-half when loves grows impossible between the couple.

The climactic reconciliation during the Gujarat riots, enacted with supreme passion by Shahid, stands out for its stark dialogues that intercut between the couple's long pent-up feeling of separation and the socio-political forces that have kept them from each other.

The climax on a ferri's wheel appears a trifle manufactured.

Editor Sreekar Prasad's smooth flow in the narration is suddenly stymied in the search for a jolting finale.

But you have to hand it to Pankaj Kapoor. In his directorial debut, he tells an old-fashioned story of love, separation and reunion with flourishes and flashes of great cinema igniting what would in lesser hands, appear to be a trite tale of love gone frightfully cliched.

And yes, Pritam's music is apt. But the best tunes 'Abhi na jao chod kar' and 'Ajeeb dastaan hain yeh', are not his.

'Mausam' is My First Love Story Film Says Sonam Kapoor

She is a fan of classic romances of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters and Sonam Kapoor says that portraying the coy beauty Ayaat, a Kashmiri girl, in Mausam felt like being part of a period novel.

The 26-year-old also calls the film her first love story and her most difficult role so far.

She stars opposite Shahid Kapoor in the movie, which got delayed by a week following objections from Indian Air Force regarding some action scenes. The film will release on September 23 now.

The actress, who is most remembered for her bubbly avatars of Bittu in 'Delhi 6' and 'Aisha', says 'Mausam', set 15-years back, reinstated her faith in love.

"The character is complete opposite of who I am. It is very difficult to say something with just one look or one gesture. This is tough acting. My characters in Delhi 6 and Aisha were loud and had lots of props but this role was difficult," Sonam told PTI in an interview.

"I am a very romantic person and the film, which is about four seasons of love, reinstated my faith love. This is why when I was in Edinburgh, which is the second season in the movie, I felt like I was a part of Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights'," says Sonam.

Ever the romantic, the actress enjoyed the languidness and the innocence of her character in the movie.

"My character in this film has a lot of depth, nobility and subtlety. Every tear and expression says something and if there is a line, it has to convey a wealth of meaning. I was like 'Nutan used to do it'. So I watched all the old movies of Nutan so that I could learn something from her," says the actress.

Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur, who turns director with the movie, set in the backdrop of Air Force, told Sonam and Shahid to write letters and Sonam says it was a difficult exercise.

"It reminded me of our school days when we used to make cards on Rose day and Valentine's day but it was so long back. We have email now which is like SMSes. I did not know where to put 'dear', sincerely or 'lots of love'. I had to relearn it," says Sonam.

Though the actress is part of the tech-savvy generation, she retains a fascination for the old world.

"So much has changed so fast but what is lost is the personal touch. There used to be a lot of thought and little sensitivity but we have become callous, cynical. Technology has given us a lot but it has also taken the humanity out of us," says Sonam.

The actress, who started her Bollywood journey only four years ago, says she does not like doing two-three films together and would rather enjoy each character that she plays.

"I never do two-three films together. My characters in Delhi 6 and Aisha are Delhi girls but I worked hard to make them different. I prefer having female fans because they identify with someone, who is strong, does not care what people think and has an opinion. I don't want to be a show-piece in a movie," says Sonam.

Sonam Kapoor: Class Act in Zara at Mausam Presser

Sonam Kapoor made an immaculate style statement in color block black and white Zara skirt and top at a special presser for her film Mausam on Wednesday, September 14 at Hotel JW Marriott in Juhu, Mumbai.

The presser was called to announce that the film has been cleared by the IAF and Censor Board, but its release date has been pushed back by a week; it will now release in theaters worldwide on September 23.

Sonam, 26, wore a pencil skirt featuring black panels on the sides. Her loose fit cap sleeve top featured zipper detail on shoulders, bateau neckline and white band on hem.

She accessorized with black Jimmy Choo pointy pumps, a classic black Chanel sling bag, a gold Bvlgari serpent watch and a statement necklace from Chanel.

Sonam was at the event with her co-star Shahid Kapoor, his father and Mausam director Pankaj Kapoor, and Shahid's step mom and Mausam co-star Supriya Pathak.

The Mausam team turned up color co-ordinated; Shahid looked dapper in all black, in harmony with Sonam's dress, while the senior Kapoor couple was dressed in matching blue colors.

Sonam was styled by her two favorites, celebrity stylist Tanya Ghavri and celeb makeup artist Namrata Soni.
It was a delight to watch Sonam and Shahid at the presser, both in perfectly coiffed retro hairstyles.

Sonam's stylist Namrata Soni explains Sonam's hairdo:

"For Sonam's hair we used heated rollers to add some texture to the hair. Then made a quiff and swept the rest of the hair into a side ponytail which showcases the beautiful waves, giving a vintage look."

Sonam rocked candy pink pout, smoky eyes and coral blush.

The presser followed a Mausam screening for the IAF earlier in the day to get their approval.

Mausam release to September 23 instead of September 16

The release of Shahid Kapur-starrer Mausam, where the actor plays a fighter pilot, has been postponed by a week due to issues raised by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

"The film has been postponed to September 23 from September 16 due to two reasons - we had received only a conditional NOC from the IAF and Censor board had given U-certificate but they wanted to review the movie once again," the film's director Pankaj Kapur told reporters in Mumbai.

"It was the question of IAF security, which was very important. We could not refuse as it was a matter of national security.

"They (IAF) wanted to make a correction in a 30-second sequence. The scene has not changed. It is only the tiny details that have been changed," he said, while praising IAF for their continuous support during the making of the movie.

IAF had raised objection to an action scene in the film and had held back the NoC until the changes were made.

"The scene had computer graphics and was not ready, hence we could not show it to IAF before. We got the clearance from IAF and censor board yesterday.

"Since the corrected print was not ready and we could not send it to our distributors abroad we have pushed the release of the film ahead. We wanted to release the movie world-wide on the same date," said Pankaj, who is making his directorial debut with the film. Meanwhile, Shahid said he was happy that he had one week more to promote the film.

"We have got one more week to promote the movie abroad which we could not do earlier. We are looking at having a premier in London three days before release and also in Mumbai a day before the release," he said.

On whether he was frustrated with the postponement of the film, Shahid said, "I am anxious and excited but not frustrated. Everyone wants to see the movie on the date of release. It's an unfortunate incident."

"I am happy that no major release is lined-up. We are having a solo release. Every one would like to release their movie individually. It is a sensible thing," said Shahid, who was last seen in the much delayed Milenge Milenge.

Actress Sonam Kapoor too echoed Shahid's views.

"I am happy that we have got one more week to promote the movie. It is okay... we have waited for long and it is just seven days more," she said.

Shahid Kapoor's Mausam postponed?

Shahid Kapoor's " Mausam" might have got its release dates in a soup because of the air force's objections to a scene.

Trade analyst Komal Nahata tweeted that it was postponed by a week, to September 23. Although the Censor Board cleared the film, the IAF has still not given an NOC to it. But Shahid tweeted saying "Mausam" was releasing on its scheduled date of September 16. "Please don't believe rumours about release date. As of now, we are on track." Shahid tweeted.

Shahid Kapoor to tell 'mausam ka haal'!

Times of India

If all goes as planned, actor Shahid Kapoor will join the met department for a day and be a weather forecaster as part of a marketing strategy to promote his upcoming release " Mausam".

The producers claim to have approached the India Meteorological Department, which gives the daily weather forecast across India, to employ Shahid for a day and teach him the tricks of weather forecast. "'Mausam' is about seasons of love and not exactly about the weather. However, the marketing team came up with this unique idea and everyone just loved it. We are working out the permissions," actor-turned-director Pankaj Kapoor said in a statement. Shahid also had the rare experience of flying multirole jet fighter aircraft F-16 to adapt traits of a fighter pilot for his role in "Mausam". He is the only actor to have flown that ultimate flying machine. "Mausam" is releasing Sep 16.

Shahid Kapoor’s secret crush: Scarlett Johansson!

The Mausam actor revealed to Simi Garewal that he finds her desirable

Shahid Kapoor may keep mum about Priyanka Chopra, but he has no problems admitting to his fantasy love interest. The actor admitted to Simi Garewal on her chat show Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable that he secretly adores Scarlett Johansson. On being asked whom he thinks has redefined their status as to become a symbol of desirability, he said, “Scarlett Johansson is extremely desirable. She is the one woman who I think I love. The mature kind.” On being asked if he could fall in love with a simple ordinary girl he said, “I think the best thing for an actor is to date an ordinary simple girl because it kind of brings back a certain amount of normalcy into your life. I think it would be great for an actor to date somebody who is not from the film industry. I think it kind of opens your horizons but the chances of that happening are very limited.” We wonder what Priyanka has to say about that!

Priyanka Chopra is hotter than Kareena Kapoor : Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor was in a sticky situation when he was questioned, “Who is hotter? Priyanka Chopra or Kareena Kapoor”. And the actor answered that he finds Priyanka hotter than Kareena.

Though Shahid likes to stay mum when asked about the matters of the heart, he admits that he was never a loner. The star whose Mausam will hit the theaters soon confesses that he always used to be in relationships. But as for now he is enjoying his single status and has learnt that happiness comes from within and is not dependent on someone. Yes, he is very much single and ready to mingle. The actor gave a candid interview to Filmfare, talking about films, life and how he is a hopelessly romantic.

When asked whom he finds sexy, Priyanka or Kareena, he chose not to take names. But when it came to hotness quotient, Shahid rated Priyanka above Kareena and said, “Personally, I think is Priyanka is hotter.”

Is Vidya Balan still in love with Shahid Kapoor?

The actress apparently told TV producer Ekta Kapoor not to promote ex-boyfriend Shahid Kapur's Muasam on her TV show, fuelling rumours that she still has a soft spot for him

There have been reports that Vidya Balan has been telling TV producers, including Balaji's Ekta Kapoor, not to promote ex-beau Shahid Kapoor's next release Mausam, in her TV serial, Bade Achche Lagte Hai. Does that mean the pretty Ishqiyan actress hasn't forgotten Shahid despite being in a steady relationship with one of the heads of a production house?

Says a source, "Shahid and Vidya became close during the shooting of Aziz Mirza's Kismet Konnection and shared some close moments together. But it was for a brief period of time and since then both have moved on with their respective partners. Or so one thought. But from her latest move it appears that Vidya has not moved on. There have been stories of her telling her Dirty Pictures producer Ekta Kapoor not to promote Shahid's next film Mausam on Ekta's serial, Bade Achche Lagte Hain. Why would a star of Vidya's calibre and repute do such a thing unless she was still in love with Shahid? One wonders if there's trouble in her relationship with her current beau, whom Vidya has been dating for over a year? It appears as if Vidya is still holding grudges aganst Shahid, while the actor has moved on and only wishes her well."

However a source from Balaji has another version. "Ekta's decision not to promote Mausam on her serial Bade Achche Lagte Hainwas not personal or anything to do with Vidya. Ekta is a professional and was very clear right from the beginning that only her film Dirty Pictures would be promoted first in Balaji's flagship television serials. Promoting upcoming releases through TV serials has always been one of the marketing strategies of Balaji but this time Ekta wants Dirty Picturesto come first (before other's films) on Bade Achche Lagte Hainas it's one of the top-ranking popular serials today. Vidya is a very dignified and balanced girl who is in a happy space today. She is a professional who would never interefere in someone's work. Nor does she need to resort to such gimmicks."

So who then is spreading the rumour?

Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor kiss!

Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor More Pics
Times of India
There is no kissing scene in Mausam." Sonam Kapoor had said that. But Mumbai Mirror has just found out, that there is indeed a passionate lip-lock between the actress and her co-star Shahid Kapoor in the said film.

And the man who made this kiss possible was none other than Shahid's father, the director of the film Mr Pankaj Kapur. Looks like the actress who had once denied the existence of any such embrace in the project, couldn't refuse the director's command.

Initially when Pankaj Kapur had informed Sonam about the kiss, she had put her foot down. Her refusal had sparked off some real drama on the sets of the film. Kapur had even called up her father Anil Kapoor in desperation. But the actress refused to budge even then. She had even told sections of the media that there was no kissing scene in the film.

That however, is a thing of the past. Much like her days of not being too friendly with her co-star Shahid. With the thaw in their relationship, even the kissing scene seems to have worked itself out. In fact, when contacted Sonam told Mumbai Mirror that she and Shahid do have a kiss in Mausam. When asked about her initial refusal regarding the scene, she said, "Says who?" So was the scene diluted? "No. Jitna hona chahiye tha, utna hi rakha gaya," said Sonam.

Sonam surely seems to have had a change of heart. Mausam producer Sheeta Talwar said, "Sonam is a fantastic actress. She had a very comfortable equation with Pankaj and Shahid. If there were any aspersions whatsoever, they were cast aside during the course of the shoot."

Sonam will be the fourth heroine who Shahid is locking lips with- Kareena Kapoor (Jab We Met), Priyanka Chopra (Kaminey) and Anushka Sharma (Badmaash Company).

Shahid feels his past ladies were not mature in relationships!

Controversy’s favourite child as far as love affairs is concerned; Shahid Kapoor finally clears the air about his temperament in any relationship he has been into so far. The actor claims a mature attitude towards his relationships with no room for puppy love and on the contrary, his lady-loves showed signs of immaturity leading to break ups.

In his father’s directorial debut ‘Mausam’ he plays a character that grows mature as a lover in the course of time. And, when probed about whether in real life he has come a long way as far as maturity is concerned, he exclaims, “I have always been mature and responsible in my relationships. I never believed in puppy love.”

Shahid also looked comfortable shedding some light on his current relationship with Priyanka Chopra, with whom he is heard to have rekindled while shooting Kunal Kohli’s next. “My love story is very happy,” exclaims Shahid.

Shahid to be in high-spirits about his present relationship points needle towards a long term affair. Hope, his maturity works wonder for him this time

Only a handful of stars, such as Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar, Ayesha Takia and husband Farhan Azmi, attended the party.

Shahid Kapoor and Bipasha Basu have only worked together on the 2005 film Shikhar, which also starred Ajay Devgan and Amrita Rao.

Shahid Kapoor, Sonam bury the hatchet

Actors Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor were known not to be the best of friends while shooting for 'Mausam'. For starters, Sonam refused to do a kissing scene for the movie, and is known to have had a problem with the schedules and time lines.

However, with the film nearing its released date, Shahid and Sonam Kapoor seem to have kissed and made up. The two are have been extremely cordial with each other.
