Movie Review: Hum Tum Shabana

Movie : Hum Tum Shabana

Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Minissha Lamba, Satish Kaushik

Direction:Sagar Ballary

Production:Sunil Chainani, Sameer Chand, Srivastava, Subhash Dawar

Story /Screenplay: Farhajaan Sheikh

Music:  Sachin-Jigar

Rating:           **

Hum Tum Shabana is intended to be a comedy movie revolving around two boys – Rishi (Tusshar Kapoor) and Kartik (Shreyas Talpade,) competing against each other in the office at work; as well as outside the office, to woo a beauty pageant contestant – Shabana (Minissha Lamba). Shabana’s uncle (Satish Kaushik), an underworld don, is adamant to find the right groom for his niece. Now, race between the boys, instead of winning the lady, takes turn to get out of the clutches of this gangster.

Sagar Ballary seems to be losing his proven expertise at simple mindless comedy of Bheja Frying, and has to hide behind silly slapstick in Hum Tum Shabana.  The first half fails to tickle; while the second half makes you to join the race of fleeing the flick.

Outdated story with patchy writing and countless ramp walk rounds substantiates the writer’s obsession of Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’ sans its glamour and charisma; and screenplay, with dreary jokes, fails to entertain the viewers.

Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade can’t add any spark, neither can Minissha. Veteran comedians Satish Kaushik and Sanjay Mishra hold the burden of providing some hilarious moments in the second-half with their witty gags; however, poor script does not provide much scope to them either.

Overall, if you are looking for some light comedy, Hum Tum Shabana is not it, for sure!

Movie Review: Force

Film: "Force"
Cast: John Abraham, Genelia D'Souza and Vidyut Jamwal;
Director: Nishikant Kamat;
Rating: ***

A raw rugged cop's tale of vicious vendetta fused into a tender romance seems like a hard act to live up to. But Nishikant Kamat, seeking inspiration from a hit Tamil film "Kaakha Kaakha" manages just fine.

He gets incredible support from dialogue writer Ritesh Shah, who infuses every exchange on love (with the girl who won't take no for an answer) and war (against drug peddlers) with a kind of lived-in warmth and familiarity.

Kamat, who earlier made "Mumbai Meri Jaan" on terrorism and the city of Mumbai, here has a blast bringing back the old-fashioned action hero. John Abraham has worked hard on his physique and his expressions too look like a cop who thinks falling in love would take him away from his line of duty.

Enter the vivacious effervescent girl nextdoor. Genelia with her multiplicity of expressions aptly plays "Bubbly" to this duty-bound "Bunty" who would rather not get entangled in human foibles like love and family. But the inevitable happens.

Kamat lovingly weaves the love story between the impish girl nextdoor and the gentle giant into the persistent call of duty, making sure the film's claims to be an action film doesn't get drowned in mush.

While the first hour is a loose bag of striking shootouts staged in crowded localities of Mumbai and some highly dispensable romantic songs, it is the second-hour where the narration really gathers momentum pitching the relentless cop against his chief adversary a drug dealer named Vishnu, played with arresting elan by debutant Vidyut Jamwal.

The man-to-man confrontations between Abraham and Jamwal have a rousing rugged resonance to them. They may make you squirm with their brutality. But the two look like well-matched opponents. Action director Allan Amin devises combats that convey a bone-crunching realism.

The two adversaries take care of the rest. John gives a finely pitched performance looking every inch like the action hero who can deliver that punch. He handles both the brutal and tender moments in the violence and romance, with ease.

Newcomer Vidyut Jamwal makes a formidable adversary. The menace is not only in the physique but the tone. This man means business. Some of the supporting cast is interesting too.

"Force" is a full-on action film with balls, brawn and brains. It's the kind of virile cinema where action speaks louder than words. Blessedly the narrative secretes some fine dialogues and tender love story that goes with the turbulent territory. Nishikant Kamat balances out the colour khaki with sharp colours of humour and romance.

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster review: Heady mix of passion, power and politics

A wonderfully gripping trip into the hinterland where life is cheap, death is free and sex comes at a premium. Be ready to cheer and whistle as this one comes with punchlines galore

The best thing about director Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster (SBG) is the fact that it is placed in a milieu that he is well-versed with; the language, the look and the characters, all rarely seen on the big screen, make this film a treat to watch. Shot aesthetically, the content is aimed at a fairly mature audience. SBG is one of the few Hindi films that has done justice to the acting prowess of Jimmy Shergill, who does look like a king; a lot has been spent on his styling in the movie and it certainly is worth it.

The telling of the story is as simple as the title of the film – it is about a king (Jimmy Shergill) whose coffers are empty, his wife (Mahie Gill) whom he doesn’t love and a rookie gangster (Randeep Hooda) who lands up in the madhouse that was once a sprawling palace. The king is going through an all-time low and has to somehow manage to live up to his royal stature, for which he uses his power and doubles up as a gangster.

Like all self-respecting kings, he also has a courtesan who knows exactly which buttons to push to ensure that he eats out of her hands.

The king is left with very few loyal subjects and has to compete with a local gangster Genda Singh (Vipin Sharma) to reclaim respect and power. The world created by the director is dark and almost everyone in it seems to be comfortable with a twisted way of life. The only character with a spine is the king’s driver, who ends up becoming a helpless witness to an ending that is a rare spectacle in Bollywood.

SBG is in the zone of filmmaker E Nivas’ Shool or Anurag Basu’s Murder and the twain meet in such a poetic way that it makes for a great watch. Stunning visuals, bravura performances, shock value, skin show and the mandatory item number – this movie is a glowing tribute to the warring-Rajput-clan genre. Though the director has only shot at about three locations, the way the film has been edited avoids any hint of repetitiveness.

The refined camerawork and catchy music add to the darkly pulpy concoction and it was a surprise to see actor Deepal Shaw almost pull off a Basanti a la Hema Malini. As the tagline of the film goes, “this weekend do spare time for this royal threesome”.

When Bipasha Basu and Rana Daggubati became an item

Bipasha Basu’s camaraderie with Hollywood hottie Josh Hartnett on the sets of Singularity led to speculations of a possible break-up with her long-time boyfriend John Abraham. But soon the Bong babe got into action and dismissed Josh as just a friend. And that was the end of the rumoured romance.

Bips returned to India and began shooting for Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maaro Dum with south Indian hottie Rana Daggubatti. Once again gossipmongers sniffed of a possible romance between the two good-looking actors. Around the same time news broke that Bips-John had finally ended their nine-year-long romance.

At first, fingers were pointed at Rana for the rift, but later it was revealed that the bone of contention was John’s unwillingness to get married. Since then, the sexy single became a favourite for link-up stories. From Rana Daggubati to Shahid Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor, Bips has been linked with every single guy she has been spotted with.

Anyway, now that Rana is back in Mumbai to shoot for Ram Gopal Varma’s Department, once again stories of their romance are making headlines. A recent one was that the two actors are getting married.

The story emerged after they were spotted at Paris Hilton’s party. Though they entered separately, invitees at the party reveal they stayed together all through the night. But Bips has denied the rumours and we feel sorry for the girl. Maybe Rana is just one of the co-stars she is friendly with like Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Sikander Kher and Ranbir Kapoor. Let the girl have some fun!

Catch me if you can!

Nargis Fakhri is almost put under 'house arrest' by 'Rockstar' director Imtiaz Ali apparently to retain the mystery surrounding her. Mauli Singh reports on the 'surprise element' strategy and if it really works in favour of films

She has not yet proved herself onscreen, but Nargis Fakhri seems to have already caught the imagination of Bollywood followers thanks to her mentor Imtiaz Ali.

The filmmaker is pulling out all the stops to maintain the mystery surrounding his American find before their Rockstar hits theatres this year. Not surprisingly, she'll be kept out of all the promotional events, too.

Confirms a source, "Nargis will not interact much with the media till the film's release. Ranbir Kapoor (the film's main protagonist) will mostly promote the movie. This is all part of the promotional strategy."

Apparently, this is also the reason why the half-Pak, half-Czech hottie was missing from the music launch event held in Delhi recently. "The makers want people to see her work and then introduce her to the media.

They don't want her to get over exposed before the release of the film, and lose her charm. They want to retain the mysterious air around the supermodel," the source adds.

Avoiding the paparazzi
Even during the making of the movie, Imtiaz did everything possible to keep Nargis under wraps. She wasn't even allowed to go to public places and get photographed by the paparazzi.

The only gossip we did get to hear about her included romantic link ups with co-star Ranbir and later model/actor Shayan Munshi.

Since the film's publicity has started, the actress was expected to finally surface.

But Imtiaz seems to be very protective about her, like he has been with all his girls (Giselli Monteiro was introduced to the media only post Love Aaj Kal release). But it's not just the Rockstar director.

Of late, several producers have been adopting this strategy of introducing (and fiercely guarding) surprise elements, be it a debut actor, a new look, special effects or a special appearance by a well-known superstar in a film

Due to the media boom it has become all the more difficult for filmmakers to keep their reel secrets under wraps.

To ensure that the story or the 'surprise' doesn't leak out, production houses have started signing non-disclosure contracts with their actors and directorial crew.

It doesn't stop there. Besides the lead cast, no other actor is given the full script.

Anushka Sharma, Giselli Monteiro and Nargis Fakhri

A character artiste confirms, "We don't get to read the whole script of the film. We are given a gist of our roles and we get the script scene-wise only a night before our shoot. It's done to ensure that story doesn't leak out."

An assistant director of another hyped upcoming film adds, "We are starting the shoot of our film in a few days and we still haven't been told who the lead actor is as the makers don't want to disclose it."

All the big film studios have become extra cautious about guarding their films that are under production.

In fact, only recently Karan Johar spruced up the security of his forthcoming Agneepath after Mid-day leaked Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra's look.

Hit or miss?
But do such strategies work? Does it really make sense for Nargis Fakhri to be kept away from the media, especially when Ranbir is the main protagonist of the film? Film historian Dinesh Raheja says, "If the heroine is in the titular role (Heena, Julie, Bobby) keeping her under wraps makes sense because there is so much curiosity about her, but not if it's a second fiddle or an arm candy. Actresses take a huge risk by agreeing to remain low profile.

If you keep a heroine under wraps and the film fails, she stands to lose the most. No one will be interested in talking to the actor of a failed film. Between Anushka Sharma (who was also kept under wraps for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi) and Giselli, the former benefited more since her films were bigger hits."

Giselli says, "Yes, every film has a pre-decided publicity plan, which is in the best interest of the project."
No wonder then Imtiaz seems to be backing off his stance a bit.

The spokesperson of Rockstar informs, "We are going to reveal Nargis at a dandiya night in Ahmedabad on October 2. She is also walking the ramp for Manish Malhotra next month.

She will also have media interactions before the release of the film, but we still have to work out the details." Let's just hope Nargis is worth the wait and not a disappointment like many other 'surprises' sprung on us by filmmakers!

Movie Review : Tere Mere Phere

Movie: Tere Mere Phere

Director: Deepa Sahi

Cast: Jagrat Desai, Sasha Goradia, Vinay Pathak, Riya Sen

Rating: *1/2
In the very beginning of this film ”a debut venture by actress-turned-director Deepa Sahi ”a young boy of about 14 spouts a worldly-wise dialogue, something to the effect of how making love is a rubbish term and what a couple actually wants is sex. I just wish we were more sensitive about not only the kind of messages we send out to our young kids via films, but also about what we make them speak on screen.

To its credit, the film has a novel story of a couple who have all the right romantic notions before marriage, but start fighting soon after they discover each other's shortcomings. So without wasting more reel time, they decide to divorce each other while on their honeymoon. Besides this storyline, however, everything else falls flat. The first culprits are the lead actors, Jagrat Desai and Sasha Goradia. While Jagrat is plain wooden, Sasha is irritating as well.

Even as the couple fights with each other, the plane in which they are travelling is taken back to its original destination because the sole airhostess on the plane and the two captains freak out! This can only happen in a bad Hindi film.

Vinay Pathak as the love-struck, happy-go-lucky person could have been the saving grace, but too much is dependent on him. Riya Sen plays a Himalayan rustic beauty, but acts like she has just landed from some foreign shore with an accent that is incomprehensible.

There are certain scenes (very few, I must add) that get you interested in the couple's lives, but after a point you wouldn't care less. Better actors and perhaps a little more experienced director may have worked for this script. Hopefully, next time Sahi takes a few tips from her husband Ketan Mehta, one of the finest directors in our midst.

A predictable ending and an unwittingly hilarious climax do the rest of the damage.

Miley Cyrus Eyes

Today we are going to talk about the Miley Cyrus Eyes. Before moving to our main focus i will must say that celebrities around the world keep a good check on their looks and presentation. But i usually don't find such qualities in Miley Cyrus. But in the current year one thing she did the best is her Dental TreatmentIf we look deeply about Miley Cyrus she don't have much appealing looks in herself, but on the other hand she is a celebrity and she is living in 21st century where she can groom herself and make some necessary surgeries and treatment very easily and she can even afford the expenses on these Surgeries and Medical treatment.

Now lets talk about her eyes. If we look at Miley Cyrus Eyes Close Up the very first thing which majority out of us will notice and say that would be Miley Cyrus Eyes Too Close Together. Now if she has these much close eyes then she can over come this flaw in her looks very easily and for this purpose she even don't need to go to any Doctor for a medical surgery or medical treatment. She simply need to keep such kind of eye makeup which give a little broad look to her too close together eyes. But she don't really care about this flaw in her personality that's why i will must say that Miley Cyrus Closed Eyes looks more better then her open eyes.

This critical post doesn't mean to hurt Miley Cyrus or her fans but we just mean that we all love her allot and she is our celebrity and in her world she has to look more better then she is and she easily can but its just a little negligence from her side or may be she cares and we perceived wrong about her.

The show sees celebrity contestants stay in a house for about three months, cut off from the outside world. They are overseen by a"mysterious person" known as 'Bigg Boss'.

This time, the location of Bigg Boss house has beenshifted to Karjat from Lonavala. Interior designer ShayamBhatia has designed the 9,000 square feet house.

This year there are two separate bedrooms as against the single bedroom last time where all 14 housemates stayed. The bedrooms have been done in shades of green and fuchsia with a hint of white, brown and yellow. The confession room varies with a shade of royal green and the jail concept is back and black.

The beautifully designed open kitchen is connected to a dining room that extends to the garden area. The outdoor spot consists of a pool, the activity area, gymnasium and the kitchen sink.

This season there will be over 55 cameras following every move of the contestants 24x7.

Like last year there will be a special bedroom for the Head-of-House who will get special privileges.

Also, the show will also see two hosts for the first time --Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. Salman, who hosted the fourth season, is the only celebrity who will be repeating the feat for the second time.

Fourteen handpicked strangers, locked in the house for about three months will have to perform all the household chores right from cleaning to cooking to tasks.

The names that are doing the rounds include - former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, Colombian singer and dancer Shakira, former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, Nihita Biswas (wife of convicted murderer Charles Sobhraj) Mexican actress Barbara Mori, former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes, pop icon Lady Gaga, British singer- rapper Jay Sean, stand-up comedian Sudesh Lehri, JaspalBhatti, Shekhar Suman's actor son Adhyayan, TV actorsParul Chauhan (of 'Bidaai' fame), Karan Singh Grover (of 'Dil Mill Gayye') and Amar Upadhyay.

However, the names of the housemates will be out soon as the reality show is set to hit the small screen on October 2 on Colors channel.
