New Delhi: Eccentric fashion icon Lady Gaga will make her India debut in October and is all curious to know what makes the world's largest cinema industry tick. The 25-year-old singer told talk show host and actress Simi Garewal that she loves Bollywood and would like to get to know its reigning stars better.
Garewal's newly launched 'India's Most Desirable' featured an hour-long show on Lady Gaga that premiered on Sunday night, where the "lonely" pop star spoke about her growing up years, unsuccessful relationships and journey to stardom.
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, said she loves Bollywood for its "heightened sense of reality, and surreal genius" and is coming to India in October for her first show in the subcontinent.
The American singer-writer, who has recently broken into the upscale Vogue best dressed list spoke of her fight with lonliness especially after the end of a three-year-old relationship with her bartender boyfriend Carl Luc. "But artists are supposed to be lonely," she told Garewal in a pre-recorded interview that broke away from the celebrity talk show host's usual style of inviting guests to her own studio.
"She had 15 interviews lined up the day I interviewed her and she changed her hairdo and makeup for every single one of them," Garewal told her audience. The star anchor had been tight-lipped about shooting with the iconic singer till the shooting had been wrapped up. Garewal had been in touch with Gaga's agents to get her on her guest list for a while.
Her earlier show 'Rendezvous With Simi Garewal' had featured international names such as Jackie Chan, Imran Khan and the late Benazir Bhutto. The channel, Star World India also posted a video on Facebook in which GaGa says, "India, mujhe tumse pyaar hai" (India, I love you.)
Gaga spoke extensively of her struggle early on in life "to fit in". "Don't stoop to that place of negativity. You have something very unique and special (she told herself). I was starting to cling to my artistry," Gaga said of her struggling years adding "I can't even begin to tell you the number of times I was told 'no' in the past than the number of times I was told 'yes' yesterday."
Explaining the context of her hit single 'Judas', the singer said the betrayal she felt in her personal life from her failed relationships she channelized into her music. Known to control all aspects of her music shoots, Gaga, a workaholic, says "I am afraid of missing out on a creative idea because of lack of time."
Describing her strange makeup, sometimes bordering on the eccentric, as "garage couture" Gaga said she is an exhibitionist and would like to be known as the greatest con artist in pop culture. She also paid Garewal a compliment on her fashion sense during the interview.
Although the recorded interview lacked the punch that the veteran actress packs in her talk shows, there is much to look forward to as the singer said she is eager for her India visit which will give her a chance to renew her acquaintance with spicy Indian curry.
